AXTELL – The Nebraska Kearney women’s golf team overcame the elements to win the 2023 Nebraska Intercollegiate this weekend at Awarii Dunes in Axtell.The Nebraska Golf Association (NGA) hosted the event which was UNK’s first time at home since Sept. 2019. The tournament, also featuring a men’s field, included high winds and cool temps on Friday with a freeze warning pushing back things three hours on Saturday. UNK had efforts of 321 and 322 (643 total) to get past Wayne State (653). The rest of the six-team field was well behind.Kansas junior Brooke King earned medalist honors thanks to a 12-over 156 (74-82) with Kanas junior Allison Comer the runner up (13-over 157; 82-75). WSC then finished third and fourth, respectively. King had 19 pars and three birdies over the two days with Comer’s second round highlighted by eight straight pars.Also, Colombian junior Juliana Botero Molina was eighth (164; 79-85), Kansas freshman Liz Lyons tied for ninth (167; 86-81) with Kansas freshman Claire Berquist tying for 11th (173; 89-84). Botero Molina had three birdies on Friday, Lyons carded three on Saturday with Berquist at 13 pars.The Blue & Gold wrap up their fall slate Oct. 16-17 in Warrensburg, Mo.
