KEARNEY — Kearney Catholic High School announced that Rick Petri, Kearney Catholic Athletic Director will step down and serve in a new position.

“Rick Petri has shared his decision to step down as Athletic Director at Kearney Catholic, effective at the end of the school year. Beginning July 1 he will serve as Kearney Catholic’s school’s new Part-time Director of Finance,” Kearney Catholic High School (KCHS) stated in an email to parents, staff and stakeholders on Monday, March 2.

Petri has served in the position for the past 29 years, according to KCHS.

“Under his leadership, the Stars’ athletic programs have grown in both success and spirit, always emphasizing faith, sportsmanship, and character alongside competition. He has supported student-athletes, coaches and families with consistency and integrity, keeping the focus not only on competition, but on faith, discipline and character,” per KCHS.

“Over the past several years, Rick has also served on the KCHS Finance Committee, where he has been a thoughtful and trusted voice in long-term planning and fiscal stewardship. He has assisted in compiling data for the Annual Reports, worked to improve the clarity of the financial statements, and helped strengthen reporting and long-term planning. His understanding of both our mission and our financial structure makes this transition a natural step,” noted KCHS.

“As Director of Finance, Rick will provide integrated financial oversight, strategic planning and transparent reporting across Kearney Catholic High School, the Activities Association and the KCHS Foundation— ensuring alignment and long-term sustainability while honoring the distinct mission and governance of each entity,” KCHS stated.

Matt Rogers, Kearney Catholic principal commented, “Rick’s contributions to Kearney Catholic High School over the past 29 years cannot be overstated. His commitment to our students, players, families, and the school in general has left a positive impact on multiple generations. Rick’s leadership has guided the school to numerous championships, spearheaded the addition of several new sport offerings, and played a major role in facilities projects such as the building of Cope Coliseum in the mid-2000’s and the recent Stars Stadium project. We are grateful for his years as Athletic Director and confident that his steady approach and deep knowledge of our school will serve Kearney Catholic in his new role.”

“We are thankful for Rick’s many years of service and ask you to join us in supporting him and his family as he begins this next chapter at Kearney Catholic,” per KCHS.
