HASTINGS — A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for all of south-central Nebraska during the afternoon and early evening hours of Thursday, March 12.
The National Weather Service – Hastings has issued the Fire Weather Watch due to southwest winds at 20 to 30 mph with some gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity as low as 15 percent.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Watch for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.
“Warm weather on Thursday with highs in the 70s results in afternoon relative humidity values falling at or below 20 percent across the area, and below 15 percent west of Highway 183,” per NWS Hastings.
“Southwesterly winds gusting 30- 40mph are expected across the area on Thursday, with higher gusts possible if greater mixing occurs. This results in widespread critical fire weather conditions across the area,” NWS Hastings noted.
