FARNAM — The evacuation order that had been issued for Farnam and southwest Dawson County has been lifted. Firefighting operations will continue in the area.
At 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 13, Dawson County Emergency Management lifted the evacuation order for southwest Dawson County. Residents are safe to return to the area and the community of Farnam.
“Be advised fire operations will likely occur in the general area for the foreseeable future. Proceed with caution,” per Dawson County Emergency Management.
The initial evacuation order had been issued at 9:02 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 as a wildfire that started south of Maxwell had spread to the east and then south, owing to the passage of a cold front.
Highway 47 south of Gothenburg remains closed as do some county roads. Fire crews will be on scene throughout the day not only in southwest Dawson County, but also southeast Lincoln County where the wildfire remains active.
