GRAND ISLAND – Dr. Kent Mann was sworn in March 16 as the newest member of the Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education.

The Board of Education appointed Mann at its Feb. 12 meeting to replace Josh Sikes, who moved to another community.

Mann has extensive experience as an educator including serving as principal at Grand Island Senior High School.

Mann brings 44 years of experience in education to the position, including serving 19 years as principal of Grand Island Senior High School. He has served as a teacher, elementary school principal, middle school principal, high school principal and superintendent in roles in public schools in Nebraska and Kansas. He has also served on the staff at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and University of Nebraska-Kearney after retiring from Grand Island Public Schools in 2011.

Mann has a bachelor’s degree from Doane College. He earned his master’s degree and doctoral degrees at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Mann, 73, has filed for election to the position. His term runs through the end of 2026. Four other people have filed for the position, and two will be elected. Incumbent Amanda Wilson, 44, has filed for re-election. Others who have filed are Christine Kier, 59; Amanda Goodwin, 42; and Jacob Wright, 27.
