KEARNEY — Students from the Hanny Arram Center for Success (HACS) made a strong impression at the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association (NRCSA) Conference today, engaging attendees through hands-on learning experiences and interactive science demonstrations.
Throughout the day, seven students, under the guidance of science teacher Talisha Sorenson, participated in both morning and afternoon exhibit sessions. Each group of students shared a variety of classroom projects designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding of real-world scientific concepts.
Conference attendees had the opportunity to explore questions such as, “What is the weight of air?” and “What is a kilowatt-hour (kWh)?” Students also demonstrated comparisons between energy usage in incandescent and LED light bulbs, introduced the KidWind Challenge, and highlighted innovative science lessons using LEGOs to model complex ideas.
To engage participants, students invited attendees to take part in a brief survey as part of their ongoing project work. Using the NEED Project’s “Electric Connections” activity, participants were asked to rank various energy sources used to generate electricity in the United States. Students then shared actual data, allowing participants to compare their perceptions with real-world statistics. The collected results will be compiled anonymously and submitted as part of the NEED Project Youth Awards Program next month.
The Hanny Arram Center for Success continues to provide innovative educational experiences that empower students to explore, engage, and apply their learning beyond the classroom.
The NRCSA Spring Conference is an annual flagship event designed to promote and support rural education in Nebraska. Held annually in March at the Crowne Plaza & Younes North Convention Center in Kearney, the conference brings together over 400-600 attendees, including school administrators, staff, and exhibitors.
While the conference is organized by NRCSA, TRANE is a prominent corporate partner and vendor involved in the event, specifically working on initiatives such as coordinating vendor contributions for school disaster relief.
