HASTINGS — Weather permitting, work will begin March 30 on U.S. Highway 6 (US-6), from approximately 1/4 mile west of Elm Avenue to 1/4 mile east of Showboat Boulevard, from reference post 212.71 to reference post 215.05, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Werner Construction, of Hastings, is the contractor for this project. New 10″ doweled concrete pavement with stabilized subgrade will be constructed through project, changing the current 2-lane and 4-lane sections of roadway to a consistent 2-lane roadway, with a common left-turn lane throughout.
A roundabout intersection will also be constructed at Elm Avenue and South Street, as well as realigning the curve and intersection at Elm Avenue and J Street. Additional work will include culverts, sanitary sewer, lighting, erosion control and seeding.
Traffic will be maintained with temporary traffic control on US-6. Traffic will also be detoured onto Showboat Boulevard / J Street during later stages of construction. Anticipated completion is May 2028.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
