GRANT CO. — A wildfire broke out in Grant County during the early morning hours of Thursday, March 26 and has prompted evacuations.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office issued evacuation orders for the villages of Hyannis and Ashby. Hyannis High School was listed as a shelter.

Parts of Highway 2 and Highway 61 have been closed due to the fire, per the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

The NDOT shared a photo from a camera along Highway 61 of flames near the roadway.
