GRAND ISLAND — On March 29, 2026, at approximately 4:50 p.m., Hall County sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of East Capital Ave and East Highway 30 in reference to a fatality accident involving a motor vehicle and a motorcycle.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle struck a 2023 Ford Expedition as the Expedition was turning onto Highway 30 from Capital Avenue. The driver of the Expedition was Ranae Ehlers, 53, of Grand Island. Ehlers sustained minor injuries, and the seatbelt was in use.

The operator of the motorcycle was Schuyler Crooks, 45, of Grand Island. Crooks was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. No helmet was in use.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor.

Next of kin has been notified.

An autopsy will be performed at the direction of the Hall County Attorney’s Office.

Hall County crash investigators responded to the scene and continue to investigate the crash.

Hall County deputies were assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Grand Island Rural Fire Department, Grand Island Fire Department, Grand Island Police Department and the Hall County Attorney’s Office.
