GRAND ISLAND – Grand Island Utilities has been recognized by the American Public Power Association with the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation at the Diamond Level, marking the first time the utility has achieved the program’s highest honor.

The RP3 designation is awarded to public power utilities that demonstrate exceptional performance across four key areas: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement.

Utilities receiving the designation must meet rigorous criteria and undergo a comprehensive review process conducted by the American Public Power Association.

The Diamond Level represents the top tier of the RP3 program and is reserved for utilities that consistently perform at the highest level in delivering safe, reliable and forward-thinking electric service.

Only a select group of public power utilities nationwide earn Diamond status and is typically tied to the top 5 percent in the country, placing Grand Island Utilities among the most elite providers nationwide. In Nebraska, GIUD is one of just three utilities recognized.

The RP3 program has recognized public power utilities for more than a decade, with designations lasting three years. Earning Diamond status signifies not only strong day-to-day operations but also a long-term commitment to innovation, safety and continuous improvement.

Grand Island Utilities continues to play a critical role in supporting the city’s growth and quality of life, delivering dependable electric service to residents and businesses while planning for future energy needs.
