KEARNEY – Members of the Kearney Police Department, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, and surrounding law enforcement agencies will come together with the family, friends, and community for the funeral of Retired Kearney Police Lieutenant Dennis Lewis.

Funeral services will be held at Saint James Catholic Church, 3801 Avenue A, Kearney, NE on Monday October 16, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.

Kearney Police will be assisting with parking and providing a police escort following the service to the Kearney Cemetery. The funeral escort will depart from Saint James Catholic Church at approximately 12 p.m. traveling north on A Avenue, east on 39th Street, north on I Avenue. Members of the community are welcome to safely line the route to pay respect to Lieutenant Lewis for 35 years of dedicated service to our community. Expect traffic delays and congestion along the route.

A second-generation Nebraska Law Enforcement Officer, Lieutenant Lewis began his career in 1980 as a Jailer with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office. He attended the Nebraska Law
Enforcement Training Center in 1982 as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office until March 1988 when he became a Police Officer with the Kearney Police Department, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant in 2018.
