NEBRASKA — There were 22 people killed as the result of Nebraska traffic accidents in September, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT).

There were 22 fatalities that occurred in 21 fatal crashes, six of the 16 vehicle occupants were not using seatbelts, four were using seatbelts and six were marked as unknown.

Of the overall number, 14 of the fatalities occurred in rural locations, one was on Interstate 80, 13 were on highways and eight were on local roads.

Two of the fatalities were bicyclists, two were motorcyclists and two were pedestrians.

From January to September 2023, there have been 155 fatalities in 142 crashes. Last year, during the same period, there were 168 fatalities in 193 crashes.

There were 34 fatalities in September 2022.
