WARRENSBURG, MO – Junior Caroline Cole had a hat trick to help No. 17 Central Missouri down Nebraska Kearney, 5-0, Friday night in Warrensburg.
UCM (11-3-1, 6-1-1) improves to 4-0 at home with the Lopers still searching for an elusive win over the longtime national power. UNK tied the Jennies, 1-1, in Warrensburg back in 2012.
Cole, the 2021 MIAA Freshman of the Year and a 2022 second-team All-American, scored in the fifth, 18th and 55th minutes. Her third goal via a PK with her season point total now up to 14. About five minutes after the hat trick, freshman Ryann Clark scored with junior Isa Yanes adding another in the 72nd minute. Junior Ashleigh Martin had two assists on the night for a Jennies squad that was credited with 27 shots.
For UNK, junior keeper Mackenzie Smith (Lincoln) recorded nine saves in all going all 90 minutes with freshman Iliana Wurzbacher (Atchinson, Kan.) having a shot and logging 72 minutes of work. Finally, stalwarts Dolcie Hanlon (Fruita, Colo.), Lily Engeman (Olathe, Kan.) and Raegan Downham (Cheyenne, Wyo.) all went the distance.
The Lopers (2-11-2, 1-5-2) are at Missouri Southern State (0-13-2, 0-7-1) on Sunday at noon.
