KEARNEY — South central Nebraska will get its first experience with winter this weekend in both terms of temperature and wintry precipitation potential, according to the National Weather Service – Hastings.

Rain and a snowy mix of precipitation will develop during the day on Saturday, with a complete transition to snow by Saturday night.

The Tri-Cities area looks to see trace amounts to one inch, while areas to the west of Kearney could see trace amounts to two inches. Trace amounts to an inch look likely for areas along and south of Interstate 80.

The northwestern portions of the NWS Hastings coverage area have the highest chances of seeing accumulation amounts of one to four inches. Broken Bow and north could see amounts between two to four inches.

As for temperatures, the highs on Saturday and Sunday will be in the mid-30s, while overnight lows will drop into the teens and low 20s.

Another shot of cold air is expected on Tuesday just in time for Halloween. The current forecast is for highs to be in the 20s for the trick-or-treating hours, but the period does at least appear to be dry.
