LEXINGTON — A conditional use permit to allow for the sale of firearms and ammunition north of Lexington was approved by the Dawson County Commissioners during their Wednesday, Nov. 1 meeting.
The permit was submitted by Shon Jasnoch to allow mainly for the online sale of firearms and ammo from his home north of Lexington on Road 759.
Mark Christiansen, Zoning Administrator, said that there had been no public opposition to the permit and that the county planning commission had approved the plan. He noted that this would not be a large operation and would not require extra buildings on the property.
The commissioners approved the permit unanimously.
During committee reports, Chairman Rod Reynolds spoke about the ongoing courthouse remodel and noted the drywall is up and the painting has begun. The drop ceiling will be installed next week, it should be finished by the end of November.
As for the new Road Department building, the frame of the building has been set up and crews will start working on the exterior soon.
Bids were approved from TL Sund in the amount of$176,067.50 for a post frame building and MH Equipment in Grand Island for a diesel forklift, totaling $19,000.00.
The commissioners also held two executive sessions, one for disclosure letters from Woods Aitken and another regarding the County Clerk position.
After the first session, the commissioners voted to authorize Reynolds to sign both disclosure letters from Woods Aitken LLP, no action was taken after the county clerk session.
During the board of equalization meeting, the commissioners voted to deny a homestead exemption request that had been submitted by William and Sharon Horst as it didn’t qualify due to statutory requirements.
Katherine Kuhn, Deputy County Attorney advised the board, she has received Kreuscher Tax Equalization and Review Commission (TERC) order and there was no change.
