No. 1 HUSKER VOLLEYBALL BATTLES PAST NORTHWESTERN:
The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team won its 24th match in a row with a 3-1 win over Northwestern in front of 8,637 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Wednesday night.
Nebraska improved to 24-0 (15-0 Big Ten), its best start to a season since 2005 (28-0). Northwestern dropped to 11-14 (5-10 Big Ten).
Merritt Beason and Harper Murray each had 13 kills to lead the Big Red. Allick tied her season high with 11 kills and hit .562, and Ally Batenhorst also had double-digit kills with 10. Jackson chipped in eight kills on .600 hitting.
The Huskers host Illinois on Sunday at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
CARPENTER, BERANEK HONORED WITH LEGACY AWARD:
Two Nebraska high school basketball legendary coaches will be honored with awards later this winter.
The Nebraska Basketball Coaches Association announced the girls 2023 John Wooden Legacy award recipient is former Lexington girls coach Coach Randy Carpenter. Carpenter coached the Minutemaids for 37 years with a 492-276 overall record, 13 state tournament appearances and two Class B State Championships in 1978 and 1987.
The boys winner of the Wooden Legacy award is the late Paul Beranek of Ravenna who was the long time coach of the Bluejays. Beranek turned the Jays into a powerhouse, leading them to state titles in 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2012. He passed away in 2015. A plaque will be awarded to his family at a Ravenna game in January.
HUSKER VOLLEYBALL ANNOUNCES SIGNINGS TO 2024 CLASS:
The Nebraska volleyball program announced its 2024 signing class on National Letter of Intent Signing Day on Wednesday.
Head Coach John Cook and the Huskers secured the signings of two of the top prospects in the nation, libero Olivia Mauch (Bennington, Neb.) and outside hitter Skyler Pierce (Lenexa, Kan.).
Both have played for the United States Volleyball U19 and U21 teams, and are Top 20 prospects.
HUSKER MEN’S HOOPS HOST FLORIDA A&M:
The Nebraska men’s basketball team continues its season-opening homestand on Thursday evening, as the Huskers host Florida A&M in a non-conference contest. Tipoff between the Huskers and Rattlers is set for 7 p.m.
Nebraska (1-0) comes off an 84-52 win over Lindenwood on Monday night. Florida A&M wraps up a two-game road trip in Nebraska following a 105-54 loss at No. 8 Creighton on Tuesday evening.

NEBRASKA MEN’S HOOPS ADD TWO TO 2024 CLASS:
The Nebraska men’s basketball program added a pair of top-150 recruits on Wednesday, as Braden Frager (Lincoln, Neb.) and Nick Janowski (Pewaukee, Wis.) have signed National Letters-of-Intent on Wednesday, the first day of the fall signing period.
Both recruits are in the top-150 of their respective classes by 247, as Jankowski is ranked No. 114 in the 247Sports composite while Frager, who will reclassify to the class of 2024, is ranked No. 147 in the class of 2025.
Frager stays close to home, as he is a Lincoln native who plays for Coach Alex Bahe at Lincoln Southwest High School.
Janowski is a 6-foot-3 guard who plays for Coach David Burkemper at Pewaukee (Wis.) High School. A four-star recruit by ESPN.com, he ranked among the nation’s top 125 seniors.
HUSKER WOMEN INK THREE TO INCOMING CLASS:
Five-star recruit and reigning Nebraska Gatorade High School Player of the Year Britt Prince headlines a three-player signing class announced by Husker women’s basketball coach Amy Williams on Wednesday.
Prince, a senior at Elkhorn North High School and the No. 28 ranked prospect in the nation by ESPN, joins Amiah Hargrove (Christopher, Illinois) and Lincoln Southwest High School guard Kennadi Williams in Nebraska’s trio of 2024-25 newcomers who made the college plans official on Nov. 8.
Williams is the daughter of the head coach, as the Lincoln Southwest dual-sport athlete will also compete in Softball for the Big Red.
ALL-FKC VOLLEYBALL TEAMS ANNOUNCED:
The 2023 All-Conference Fort Kearny Conference volleyball teams were announced earlier this week.
Plenty of area teams and athletes were represented on the first, second, and third team nominations.
First team recognition included: Mikah O’Neill and Taryn Artbuthnot of SEM, JoLee Ryan, Ashlyn Florell, and Natalie Wood of Overton, and Hannah Herrick and Saryn Prickett of Amherst.

KHS BOYS SOCCER RELEASES NEW ALTERNATE UNIFORMS:
The Kearney High School Bearcat Boys Soccer team will rock new threads for an alternate uniform in the spring.
According to a post from head coach Scott Steinbrook’s X page, the Kearney High School boys soccer program will have an “old-school blue and gold uniform” inspired by the “Waldo” uniforms worn by the United States Men’s National team.
