LINCOLN – Sorry, Colin Murray. A new sharpshooter has entered Bearcat Basketball lore.
The school record for three-point field goals made in a single contest that had stood for 1,391 days fell Thursday night in the Capital City of Lincoln, Neb., as sophomore Jacob Webber nailed nine triples to aid in pushing the Kearney Bearcats past their conference foes for a 73-38 victory. Webber was not the only Bearcat that had success Thursday night, as Kearney (2-1) rebounded off their disappointing loss at Millard North from last Saturday by having six different players contribute – including three in double figures – for a thirty-five point victory.

Kearney entered Lincoln High with goals of righting their team ship but also overcoming the demons of a conference tournament loss to the Links at their home floor last December. Those memories were quickly erased beginning in the opening minutes with a 10-2 run in the opening two-and-a-half minutes. The scoring came early from Webber and friends, as the sophomore hit three triples in the opening quarter while Ben Johnson contributed six points while Asher Endorf, Turner Bertrand, and Karter Lee each had two.
The Links aimed to keep close and grit for a tight contest, but could not keep pace with Kearney’s aggressive defense forcing multiple Lincoln High turnovers. The second quarter spark of a 23-12 advantage garnered the Bearcats a 46-23 lead at halftime. That lead was again sparked by two more Webber triples, but aided with Endorf adding in six points while Johnson would not be contained scoring seven more.

Asher Endorf, KHS Boys Basketball @ Lincoln High // Mitchell Brandt
The third quarter pushed Kearney out of reach from the Links, as Endorf thundered a two-hand jam to open the scoring after halftime. Johnson would add two more buckets while Webber would hit his final three triples needed to break the record in the fourth quarter, as Kearney rolled to the final 73-38 win.
The Bearcats (2-1) take Friday off and await a state tournament team from last season, Omaha Westside, Saturday evening. The Warriors and Kearney are set to square off beginning at 5:45 PM with KGFW’s pregame coverage beginning at the conclusion of the girls contest.
