GRAND ISLAND – A Hastings man was arrested and charged for false imprisonment.

On Sunday, Dec. 24 at 1 p.m. Grand Island Police responded to the 1000 block of W John St about a 29 year-old woman, 34-year-old woman and 4-year child being barricaded in the basement of a residence by Rudy Perez, 32, of Hastings.

Perez was known to have warrants out of Hall and York County.

According to Captain Dean Elliot upon arrival, officers were able to hear what was happening inside the residence. The owner of the home, the 34-year-old, asked officers to break into the home as Perez locked the front door.

Officers were able to get inside and make contact with Perez and gave several verbal commands. During this time, the 34-year-old woman managed to crawl over the barricaded stairwell.

GIPD says the 29-year-old woman was able to break a basement window get out with the 4-year-old child.

Officers continued to make commands to Perez but he did not comply. Pepperballs were then deployed, but did not effect Perez. Police say he was likely under the influence of a controlled substance. After several attempts, officers were able to take Perez into custody.

Perez is charged with false imprisonment, committing child abuse intentional no injury, and resisting arrest.

Court documents say his bond has been set at $25,000. A preliminary hearing is set for January 18.
