GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island man was arrested for allegedly stealing a package from the porch that contained medical prescriptions valued at over $6,000.

On Tuesday, March 26, at 1:56 p.m., officers with the Grand Island Police Department responded to Memorial Drive where a resident reported seeing Shane Draper, 34, through a Ring doorbell taking a package that contained medical prescriptions valued at $6,552.

Draper would be contacted near Vine St. and Bismark Road with the package in hand, according to officers.

Draper would become confrontational and pull away from the officer after being told he would be detained and not to resist arrest, according to Grand Island Police.

He attempted to break from the officer’s grip as the officer was attempting to and instructing him to put his hands behind his back.

A leg strike was delivered to Draper’s left leg as he failed to comply, and the officer had to force him to the ground where Draper was placed in double-locked handcuffs.

Draper was arrested for theft by unlawful taking – over $5,000, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer. He was booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
