GRAND ISLAND – Grand Island police arrested two 22-year-old men on drug charges Dec. 23 near St. Francis Medical Center.

Grand Island Police Department Division Chief Dean Elliott said that police were preparing to serve a search warrant at a residence. A vehicle departed from the residence, and police followed the vehicle. Occupants of the vehicle threw out from the vehicle several large bags filled with controlled substances, Elliott said.

The vehicle continued approximately one mile before it stopped, Elliott said.

Alejandro Jacobo-Martinez was arrested for felony possession with intent to distribute marijuana near a playground, felony tampering with evidence, felony possession of proceeds from a drug transaction, and felony possession of a deadly weapon.

Edwin Cruz-Aguilera was arrested for felony possession with intent to distribute marijuana near a playground, felony tampering with evidence, felony possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and felony flight to avoid arrest.

The men were booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
